| The year 2007 is a milestone in the nine decades-long journey of Bollywood. New genre movies with different story plot, narration styles have come up. Every tenth movie that produced in the year had an experimental base in one or the other way. It may be multi-story cinema, retro cinema, or the cinema based on sport-themes , etc. This year has witnessed around 250 movies in Bollywood. Of them, some 7 movies have fell in the soup of controversies for some or the other reasons. The list includes, Black Friday, Parzania, Ekalavya, Om Shanti Om, Aaja Nachle, Tare Zameen Par.
Black Friday is the movie which underwent for the test of censor board and with the intervention of Court of Law only, the movie has seen the light of the day. The movie is directed by Anurag Kashyap and made based on the Bomb Blasts that took place in Mumbai in 1993. The movie has made on the pattern of docu-drama with real life incidents and events with the necessary elements of a main stream cinema! Parzania is the film directed by Rahul Dholakia and based on the brutal incidents of Gujarat riots. The lady protagonist, Sarika , has won Best Actress Award at National level for her stunning performance.
The much touted and the super success movie of the year, Om Shanti Om of King Khan Shah Rukh also faced some controversy for other reasons. As the story of the movie is loosely based on the milieu of the Bollywood of 1970s, certain characters unintentionally mimicked the styles of the heroes of that period in a dramatic mode. The veteran actor, popularly known as Mr.Bharat, Manoj Kumar has expressed his anguish on Shah Rukh and planned to file a suit against him. But the same was settled with the apology of King Khan to the veteran hero.
Madhuri Dixit's come back vehicle, Aaja Nachle also fell in a controversy due to certain lines in the song of the movie which are said to be mentioned a derogatory of a dalit community and imposed a ban by Mayavati, the Chief Ministe of UP. Later, the controversy was settled with the deletion of those lines and an apology told by the producer, Yash Chopra!
Aamir Khan's directorial debut, Taare Zameen Par also faced some controversy in the state of Gujarat by hindering its release in the theatres of certain areas of the state as the actor supported the stand of Narmada Andolan against the Government, two years ago. The worst of all controversies that were seen by Bollywood in the year 2007, was erupted on the selection of Ekalavya-the Royal Guard as an official entry to participate in the Oscars! The jouno-turned director, Bhavana Talwar of Dharm, has alleged that, the selection was made due to the lobbying done by VidhuVinod Chopra, the producer-director of the movie and the members in the selection committee are closest associates of him.
