After being denied permission to give his exams by Gossner College (where he took admission in 1999 after his higher secondary exams) Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been granted admission for a B Com course at St Xavier’s College, Ranchi for the current academic year.
According to principal Father Nicholas Tete, Dhoni is among the ‘brightest students’ in the class of 52 who have taken admission for the vocation course of Office Management and Secretarial Practices.
“He has got admission by his own merit. He has scored a 72 per cent in Business Studies in his higher secondary which is quite a good mark. So when his sister Jayanti (who’s also a former student of the college) met me with his request, I immediately agreed,” says Father Nicholas.
St Xavier’s College is bending a few rules for their star student who has requested that he be exempted from attending classes as he will be away playing for the country. “Since we are an autonomous body we can make exceptions for the betterment of our students,” Father Nicholas added. “The college will organise special tests only for him whenever he is ready for them. Dhoni will have to clear all the seven papers if he wants his graduation degree,” Father Nicholas says.
There’s one more curious request from the Team India captain to the college principal-his role number has to correspond to the number 7!
“Dhoni was born on 7-7-81. He considers seven as his lucky number. So he has requested the principal that he be allotted a role number that adds up to seven. We therefore allotted the role number 1105 to him,” reveals an official at the principal’s office.
According to the official, Dhoni has already submitted a demand draft of Rs 10,000 as fees for the first semester. The college has mailed him the course materials for the same.
