Rajasekhara Reddy’s son to enter politics

KADAPA[Hindu]: Four years after waiting in the wings, Y. S. Jaganmohan Reddy, son of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, will take the plunge into politics and contest the Lok Sabha elections from Kadapa next year.

His formal entry into public life has been facilitated by his uncle, Y. S. Vivekananda Reddy, who has offered to vacate the Kadapa seat. Mr. Vivekananda Reddy, who has been a reluctant politician, made a formal announcement about his nephew’s political plans through a signed statement in Pulivendula on Tuesday. Mr. Vivekananda Reddy, younger brother of the Chief Minister, had in fact, even resigned his Lok Sabha seat soon after being elected in May 2004 with a majority of 1.29 lakh votes as he proposed to settle down in the United States where his daughter resides. This was expected to pave way for Mr. Jagan to get elected to Parliament, but for some strange reasons he withdrew it later.

Mr. Jagan’s followers in the Congress have been staging rallies for quite some time now demanding that he take the plunge. Mr. Vivekananda Reddy said that in view of this demand, the Chief Minister and his family members had approved his entry into politics. Mr. Jagan has been playing a key role in moulding the cadre, especially youth, he said.
