Political scene hots up in Kurnool

Kurnool: Elections are still seven months away but the political atmosphere has hotted up in the district after the star-turnedpolitician Chiranjeevi floated Praja Rajyam Party (PRP), a few days ago.
With senior Telugu Desam leaders of the Nandyal Parliamentary Constituency joining Chiru camp during the last few weeks, the main Opposition is making all efforts to replace them with strong candidates in the next general elections in Allagadda, Banaganapalli, Nandyal and Srisailam Assembly constituencies, which form part of the Nandyal Lok Sabha seat.
Those who quit the party included ex-MP Bhuma Nagi Reddy and his wife Shoba Nagi Reddy, who represented Allagadda, their followers AV Subba Reddy, K Rami Reddy, and B Sheshi Reddy.
The PRP is likely to field Nagi Reddy from Allagadda Assembly segment and Shoba, in all probability, would be made president of the party’s district unit. She may also be fielded to contest the Nandyal Lok Sabha seat.
On the other hand, the TDP’s district leaders have sent feelers to two Congress leaders in Nandyal area to join their party and fight elections against Chiru’s nominees.
In fact, district TDP president Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy introduced one of them - Irigela Rampulla Reddy - to the party chief and he is likely to join the TDP bandwagon soon.
The TDP leaders are of the opinion that Rampulla Reddy is the only leader who can stand against Nagi Reddy from Allagadda Assembly constituency.
Rampulla Reddy has been maintaining distance from the Congress following differences with sitting MLA and Congress leader Gangula Pratap Reddy for some time.
The TDP leaders have also succeeded in bringing back Karra Subba Reddy’s son Karra Harshavardhan Reddy into the party fold. Karra’s family has strong group in Banaganapalli Assembly segment. The TDP hopes to check Nagi Reddy in Allagadda and Banaganapalli constituencies with the help of these two leaders.
