‘I wouldn’t hesitate to shed clothes’

She’s sexy, charming and the one to watch out for. Rachna Shah may have started out with a not-so-heard Sudipto Sen’s The Last Monk, but she did gather good reviews for her performance in the film when it was screened at the Cannes film festival.

This time she has her hopes high for her upcoming movie Rang Rasiya. In a chat with LT she tells us all…

“I always wanted to become an actress. My parents’ support and my theatre background helped me a lot in achieving my dreams. Though entering Bollywood is a tough job, I made it possible through my acting skills and personality. I am thankful to Sudipto for giving me a break and starting off my filmy career with his film,” says the debutante, when asked how she got first break.

While Rachna’s happy with the success of The Last Monk, her upcoming projects include “Ketan Mehta’s Rang Rasiya and Sagar Bellary’s Kaccha Limboo that are ready for release. Besides that, three other projects lined up are Andhkarer Shabd a Bengali film, Vivek Sharma’s Kal Kisne Dekha and RGV’s Mujhe Ramuji se Milna Hai. So, I have bags packed till next year.”

What are her roles in Rang Rasiya and Kaccha Limboo like? “In Rang Rasiya, I am playing a girl who is in love with a painter, which is being played by Randeep Hooda. And in Kaccha Limboo I am playing the character of a teacher who hates children.”

What was it like working with an actor like Randeep Hooda, who is known for being moody and arrogant? “Who says he is arrogant and moody? In fact, he’s a great guy and I loved working with him. He was like a teacher for new actors like me. So as far as I’m concerned I had no problems working with him and nor did he seem like one throwing attitude.”

All right, considering she’s just stepped into the industry will she follow any strategy in work to create a serious image of hers? “Oh, I don’t think actors can be categorised. That doesn’t work for me at least! I am an actor and I want to show my acting skills to the fullest. Paresh Rawal, Om Puri and many other actors who made their entry through serious cinema are doing comedies too because they don’t want to get typecast. I’d follow the same.”

What about doing item numbers? “I have no any problem doing them either. In fact, I have done an item number in Meenaxi - A Tale of Three Cities. And since I am a trained in Kathak, I’d want to showcase my talent on-screen.”

Does that mean it’s a ‘yes’ for skin show too? “Of course, I wouldn’t hesitate to shed clothes. I’m okay wearing a bikini or giving an intimate shot. If the script requires it then why not?” Isn’t that being truly honest?
