Chiru to be transparent: Aravind

Chiranjeevi will be transparent in all his future programmes after launching his party, his brother-in-law, Mr Allu Aravind, said. The actor has been secretive about the proposed political party since his plans came to light. He revealed this while refusing to divulge when Chiranjeevi will come and if he will visit the holy shrine. He urged people coming from different parts of the state to follow rules and avoid traffic jams. Mr Aravind said that they secured nine digital display screens to help the people to remain in their enclosures and witness the proceedings.  Organisers have kept a helicopter ready for Chiranjeevi in case if he got stuck in the traffic. Mr Aravind said that they have arranged toilets for women and men. One DSP, three sub-inspectors, 40 constables will provide security for Chiranjeevi, sources said.

Pilgrims face hardships

Pilgrims began to face hardships due to Chiranjeevi’s proposed public meeting in this temple town on Monday. Lodges were full since  most of the rooms were booked in advance by Chiranjeevi’s fans. Taking advantage of the situation, the lodges doubled the tariff, especially for AC rooms.  Even TTD guesthouses were not spared. Serpentine queues were seen before the accommodation allotment counters at Srinivasam, which is one of the biggest with more than 600 rooms. “I am waiting along with my family since three hours in this queue,” Mr Krishnamoorthy from Chennai said. He came to Srinivasam as he could not get a room in any of the private hotels.  Surendra of Pattabhiram from near Chennai, who is also in search of a place to stay alleged that hotels were demanding Rs 2,000 for a AC double room though the tariff was only Rs 1,000. A senior citizen, Sathyanarayana, stressed the need for a regulation to avoid permission for such public meetings in Tirupati to prevent inconvenience to pilgrims.  In East Godavari, around 30,000 people are on their way for the public meeting on various modes of transport. The organisers have arranged three 24-coach trains starting from Kakinada, Samalkota and Rajahmundry. As many as 49 RTC buses, 160 private buses and hundreds of four wheelers were engaged to transport people.

Kapus wooed with sops

A few hours before actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi’s first public meeting at Tirupati, the state government showered another sop on the Kapu community to woo them.  The government unearthed a GO which was in cold storage for the past 14 years, to help students from the Kapu, Telaga, Balija and Vontari sub-castes among Kapus to receive scholarships on par with students of Other Backward Classes from the Intermediate to graduation level if their family income is below Rs 1 lakh per annum. While addressing a press conference at the Congress Legislative Party office on Monday, ministers Mr Botcha Satyanarayana and Mr Kanna Lakshmi Narayana said that though the GO was issued in 1994 when Kotla Vijaya Bhasker Reddy was the chief minister, it was not implemented by the successive Telugu Desam government which ruled for nine years. "As soon as our government assumed office under the leadership of the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, we have been implementing various schemes for the welfare of Kapus. Continuing that work, this government has decided to enhance the budgetary provision to give scholarships to Kapu students from Rs 2 crores to Rs 25 crores. Relevant amendments to the present GO will be done in a day or two," they added.

Pavan’s fans damage airport

Over enthusiastic fans of Chiranjeevi and his brothers damaged glass panels at the Renigunta airport when they tried to barge in. The actor had arrived in a private airline to Tirupati. The fans tried to enter the airport en-masse through a narrow door damaging the glass panels. However, Pavan Kalyan left without noticing the commotion. “We are worried about the repeat of many such incidents on Tuesday since many such fanatical fans are coming from all over AP,” a police official said. Meanwhile, MP Harirama Jogaiah, said that no one except Chiranjeevi will be on the stage during the meeting. He said that he also will be on the ground for the meeting. Chiranjeevi’s brother-in-law, Mr Allu Aravind, said that the public meeting will start at 4 pm and end by 7 pm to help people living in and around Tirupati to reach their homes on time
