HYDERABAD: The parents of Nalini, whose reported marriage with Scheduled Caste leader Katti Padma Rao’s son Chetan here on Saturday attracted media attention, called on Leader of Opposition N. Chandrababu Naidu and Home Minister K. Jana Reddy in the Assembly lobbies on Friday.
They could not, however, meet Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy though they desperately sought an audience with him.
Mr. Naidu told the couple — Tammina Subba Rao and Mani – that he needed time to study the problem while Mr. Jana Reddy asked them to lodge a complaint in Sanjeevareddy Nagar police station. Nalini, an engineering graduate from West Godavari, was employed in the city and stayed in a hostel at Ameerpet.
She had recently visited her native village and got engaged to a prospective groom who was employed at Vadodara.
She returned to the city last week to shift her place of residence but, as her parents claimed, she was kidnapped and married to Mr. Chetan in the presence of Praja Rajyam president Chiranjeevi.
The parents also alleged that they were themselves kidnapped and confined to a house until the marriage was over. They sought the intervention of Mr. Naidu and Mr. Jana Reddy in tracing out Nalini.
They would again perform her marriage with Mr. Chetan, this time according to Hindu rituals. They would not accept the earlier marriage solemnised as per Buddhist rites.
