Prajarajyam president K Chiranjeevi’s delay in finalising plans to tour the city for the GHMC elections has put the party workers in a spot.
With hardly a fortnight left for the polls, and no concrete assurances coming forth from their party president, contestants are keeping their fingers crossed and waiting for Chiranjeevi to come to their rescue.
Though party legislators were asked to take care of the candidates’ campaign requirements, contestants said there was technically very little time left for Chiranjeevi to campaign. "Our party is contesting around 55 to 60 divisions and our party president is yet to finalise his tour to the respective decisions. His schedule will be very hectic and he will have to cover at least four divisions each day. Though we are confident that his presence would ensure our victory, we are feeling insecure as Chiranjeevi is yet to announce his participation in the poll campaign. We are hopeful that the tour schedule is released at the earliest so that he can cover more areas," said a contestant, who did not wish to be quoted.
Several party workers said they could feel the absence of Yuvarajyam president Pavan Kalyan in the party as most of the youngsters, who had actively participated and worked for PRP’s victory during the assembly and general elections following a call from the actor, were staying aloof as none of the actor brothers made a public appeal seeking their support.
"Our party’s face is Chiranjeevi. The sooner he kick-starts his campaign, he can ensure a smooth victory for all contestants and also assert himself as a strong political force in the city," said a senior party leader.
Meanwhile, sources said the party president would interact with all PRP contestants on Monday and seek a general feedback on the current political situation. He is also likely to issue all B-Forms to PRP nominees. (TOI)
