HYDERABAD: The Congress launched its campaigning in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections at the Hockey Grounds at Masab Tank here Thursday.
Participating in the programme organised by the Greater Hyderabad Congress Committee (GHCC), Chief Minister K Rosaiah and PCC president D Srinivas urged people to vote for the Congress in order to strengthen the party in the State and at the national level. “Hyderabad should be developed into a global city and Rahul Gandhi should be made the prime minister after the 2014 general election as desired by former chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.
The Congress is committed to realising the dream of the deceased leader’’ Rosaiah and Srinivas declared.
Addressing a public meeting, Rosaiah said that after the sudden demise of Rajasekhara Reddy, the Congress was facing the crucial GHMC elections and the whole country was eagerly looking for its outcome.
With the Congress firmly rooted in each and every division, there is no need for the party leaders to campaign.
Party leaders and supporters at the division level would mobilise people in large numbers in support of the Congress,’’ he said.
The Congress has been winning elections of late across the country and regaining its past glory. Voters in Greater Hyderabad are aware of this development and will certainly give a massive victory to the Congress in the polls here as a tribute to the late Rajaserkhara Reddy,’’ the chief minister said.
While appealing to people to vote for the Congress, Rosaiah said Hyderabad would witness development only under Congress rule. He recalled several schemes and packages implemented by the late Rajasekhara Reddy for the Old City with an investment of Rs 2,000 crore.
The chief minister and the PCC president also released the party’s poll publicity material. Many ministers, MLAs and leaders including Rajya Sabha members KVP Ramachandra Rao and V Hanumanth Rao attended the programme which was presided over by GHCC president and Health Minister D Nagender.
Parliament member Survey Satyanarayana and some others did not attend. Union Law Minister and AICC general secretary Veerappa Moily, who was to participate in the meeting, also did not turn up.(Express Buzz)
