Hyderabad, Aug 21 (Hindu): The car rally reportedly taken out in the United States by a group of Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) from Andhra Pradesh in support of TDP’s ‘Mee Kosam’ and their meetings to canvass support for Chiranjeevi have not gone down well with the Congress.

APCC spokesperson Paladugu Venkata Rao and Banswada MLA Bajireddi Goverdhan on Wednesday took pot shots at the group of Telugus in USA for splitting along caste and political lines when they had gone there either to work or study

Admitting there was nothing wrong in supporting a political party by offering donations, Mr. Venkata Rao asked whether it was necessary for the NRIs to take out car rallies like the one in Detroit in support of TDP. Similar enthusiasm was lacking when three Indians students in USA were murdered. “Where were these NRIs then? There was not even a single protest from these groups. This only shows that they are more concerned about politics rather than humanity,” he remarked.

He faulted the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) and American Telugu Association (ATA) by saying “it is unfortunate that people from the State identify themselves with caste and join organisations that promote their community in a foreign land,” he observed. Mr. Goverdhan ridiculed the NRIs for making enquiries whether they will get tickets to contest the Assembly or Parliament elections.
