Dr. Mohan Babu launches campaign against AIDS
Padmashree Dr. M. Mohan Babu, Star hero, producer and Chairman of Sree Vidyanikethan Educational Trust, has today initiated a massive campaign to promote awareness on the issues of clean water, sanitation and AIDS in the pilgrim town of Tirupati on Tuesday (Feb 27).
About 15,000, including the students, staff of Vidyanikethan, general public and fans, took part in the rally, which went through the arterial roads of the town. At the busy four-pillar-mandap centre, Dr. Mohan Babu addressed a public meeting. Earlier, the students had displayed placards over the awareness themes and raised slogans in support of creating awareness about the same.
Dr. Mohan Babu expressed concern at the rapid spread of AIDS in a sacred place like Tirupati, while the state-level statistics of the killer disease stood at an alarming rate. "I always have special affinity with and love for the people of Tirupati. I urge all of you to make big participation in campaign against AIDS, besides promoting clean water and sanitation." He expressed his commitment to undertake tireless drive against AIDS. "The Padma Award has further increased my responsibility," he maintained. He spoke at length about the importance of clean water and surroundings. In particular, he expressed confidence that students of Sree Vidyanikethan would fight the social maladies on a war footing and the impact to be felt all over the country. He thanked the district administration and police for their cooperation in organizing the rally. He said the campaign would be intensified to all nooks and corners of the state.
Tirupati MLA Mr. Venkataramana and TTD Chairman Mr. Karunakar Reddy praised the commitment of Dr. Mohan Babu in providing quality education, besides giving free education to the poor and needy students. They said that public awareness programmes would have more effective reach with popular film personality and leader like Mohan Babu supporting them.
The UNICEF has also appreciated the voluntary work of Dr. Mohan Babu and wished success to his campaign.
Prof. Gopal Rao, special officer SVET, Vishnu Manchu, film hero and trust CEO, faculty members and local leaders were present at the rally and public meeting.
